Follow Lab PRO vs Notion: general-purpose tool or industry tool for your coaching activity?

By Ludovic Rérolle · Founder, Follow Lab

Notion is a remarkable tool. Flexible, powerful, well designed. Many coaches and trainers adopted it: and many abandoned it after spending more time building their system than supporting their clients. That is not a flaw in Notion: it is its nature. Here is an honest comparison to help you choose the tool suited to your reality.

Follow Lab PRO vs Notion: general-purpose tool or industry tool for your coaching activity?

Notion and Follow Lab PRO: two opposing philosophies

Notion is a general-purpose tool. It can become a CRM, a client follow-up tool, a wiki, a dashboard, provided you build it. That is its strength and its limit: everything is possible, but nothing is ready.
Follow Lab PRO is a tool designed specifically for the professional coaching lifecycle: session preparation, individual learner follow-up, client relationships, and administrative compliance. You have nothing to build: you just use it.
These are not two tools that are equivalent on neutral ground. They respond to two different approaches to organization.

The blank-page syndrome

Opening Notion for the first time means opening a blank document with unlimited power. For a coaching professional, it often looks like this:

  • Week 1: I create my client database.
  • Week 2: I redo the structure because it does not match my workflow.
  • Week 3: I look for a template on YouTube.
  • Week 4: I have a system that more or less works but I barely master it, and I have not yet supported a single client with it.

This is not a caricature. It is the feedback we regularly hear from coaches and trainers who migrated to Follow Lab PRO!
Follow Lab PRO is operational in a few hours. The engagement space, session management, client messaging, forms, everything is structured from day one, and adaptable to your method without rebuilding everything.

Your client's experience: the real difference

This is the argument that is not heard enough in tool comparisons.
When you use Notion to share resources or follow-up with your client, you give them access to a dense productivity interface designed for tech teams. Your client must create a Notion account, understand the navigation, find their pages among yours. Some get used to it. Many find it opaque.
With Follow Lab PRO, your client accesses a space dedicated exclusively to their engagement. They find their sessions, resources, exchanges with you, objectives, and nothing else. No learning curve. No interface to tame. A 90-second welcome video is enough.
It is a detail that changes the image you project. Several users have told us their clients commented on the platform spontaneously, as a signal of professionalism and care.

On pricing: the equation is not what you think

Notion has a free plan. That is a hard argument to beat on paper. But the real equation for a coaching professional looks like this:
Notion's free plan limits file uploads to 5 MB per file: which quickly becomes a blocker when sharing training materials. The Plus plan starts at $10 per user per month on annual billing, roughly 9–10€ excl.tax. At that price, you get a general-purpose tool you will need to configure, maintain, and adapt, with no dedicated client space, no attendance tracking, no built-in industry logic.
Follow Lab PRO at 19,90€/month excl.tax includes all of that from the start, ready to use. The real question is not "which costs less" but "which saves you time and projects the best image to your clients".

GDPR and hosting: a point that matters in coaching professions

Coaching professionals handle sensitive data: personal objectives, professional situations, sometimes elements related to mental health or life paths. The choice of hosting is not trivial.
Since September 2025, Notion has offered hosting in Europe: in Frankfurt and Dublin: but only for Enterprise clients with an Account Manager. Free, Plus, and Business plans are not yet covered. For the vast majority of independent coaches and trainers, data therefore remains hosted in the United States.
Follow Lab PRO hosts all its data in France, on HDS-certified servers (Health Data Hosting Provider). It is a concrete guarantee, available from the first euro paid, with no surcharge or extra steps.

Frequently asked questions

Can you really replace Notion with Follow Lab PRO?
It depends on usage. If you use Notion mainly for personal notes, your internal wiki, or project management, Follow Lab PRO does not replace it: that is not its role. If you use it to structure and share client follow-up, Follow Lab PRO does it better, faster, and without configuration.
Can you use both in parallel?
Yes, and it is a common setup. Notion for your internal organization (notes, reflections, document creation with or without AI assistance), Follow Lab PRO for everything related to client relationships and engagement follow-up. The two tools do not overlap.
Is Follow Lab PRO GDPR compliant?
Yes. Data is hosted in France on HDS-certified servers, with no commercial exploitation of data. For professionals who support company employees or people in sensitive journeys, it is a guarantee you can directly offer to your clients and client organizations.
